Setting Up Gmail Notifications On An iPhone
This guide shows you how to:
- Install the Gmail app on your iPhone
- Sign into your DEDICATED Abbie notification email account
- Set up notifications so your phone dings ONLY for callback alerts
This prevents alert overload while making sure important calls get your attention.
Why Use a DEDICATED Gmail Account?
This keeps:
- Personal email separate
- Alerts easy to spot
- Notifications meaningful… instead of noisy
If you haven’t created your dedicated gmail account, do that first.
Step 1: Install the Gmail App On Your Phone
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for Gmail
- Tap Get and install the app
- Once installed, open the Gmail app.
Step 2: Sign Into Your Notification Email Account
- Open the Gmail app
- Tap Sign in
- Enter the email address created for Abbie notifications
- Enter the password
- You should now see the inbox for that account.
Step 3: Allow Notifications
The first time you sign in, iPhone may ask to allow notifications. Choose Allow.
If you skipped this step, you can enable it manually:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap Notifications
- Tap Gmail
- Turn Allow Notifications ON
Step 4: Set Gmail to Notify Only for Important Emails
Now we’ll configure Gmail so it dings ONLY when callback notifications arrive.
Here’s how To Enable Notifications Inside Gmail:
- Open the Gmail app
- Tap the menu icon (three lines)
- Scroll down and tap Settings
- Tap your Abbie notification email account
- Tap Notifications
- Select High priority only
Step 5: Create a Filter for Callback Notifications
This step ensures only callback-related emails trigger alerts.
- Open Gmail on a computer (recommended for this step)
- Go to Settings → See all settings
- Click Filters and blocked addresses
- Click Create a new filter
In the filter fields:
- Use From, Subject, or keywords that identify callback notifications (for example: “callback”, “appointment”, or “new call”)
- Click Create filter, then:
- Check Mark as important
- Optional – Apply a label like “Abbie Callback”
Save the filter.
Step 6: Test the Notification
To confirm everything works:
- Make a test call that triggers a callback notification
- Watch your phone
- You should hear a ding when the callback email arrives.
If no ding occurs:
- Confirm Gmail notifications are enabled
- Confirm the email was marked as important
- Check that the correct account is active in Gmail
- Turn Focus OFF in your iPhone.
Recommended Daily Use
- Leave Gmail installed
- Let only callback notifications ding
- Ignore the app unless a notification arrives
This keeps interruptions low and response time fast.
What This Does NOT Affect
This setup:
- Does not interfere with dashboard alerts
- Does not change how Abbie works
- Can be adjusted or disabled anytime
